Excerpt:

She didn’t remember telling the operator that she needed help, but she must have because the 9-1-1 dispatcher told her she needed to stay on the line until help arrived. Time held no meaning. People arrived, whether minutes or hours later, she had no idea.

Jenny placed the phone back on the receiver and physically dropped. The sofa was behind her and caught her, but she would have sat whether there was furniture there or not. She stared blankly at the wall, seeing nothing. The house got busy around her, people walking in and out. Lots of talking, lots of work.

Someone asked her if she needed anything. She said no. They told her to stay right there, and she did.
Jenny didn’t call anyone else—not her dad, not her sister, no one. She couldn’t move, couldn’t think, couldn’t breathe. It felt like the room was closing in on her.

Her mom was dead. She hadn’t seen a body, but she knew. She knew.

Two men detached from the hustle and bustle to walk up to her. “My name is Detective Evans. My partner is Detective Crouse. We’ve contacted your dad. It will be a few hours before he can get here. May we ask you some questions?”

Jenny tried to focus. The detective that spoke was older with a deep receding hairline and clear piercing eyes. The other was an average middle-aged man that looked bored with his job. Both men stared at her.
She didn’t know what they were thinking or feeling. Her gift was strongest with touch. Regardless, it wouldn’t work now anyway. She couldn’t focus! She couldn’t think!

“Okay,” she said, her voice deadpan.

“Do you get along with your parents?” Detective Evans asked as he took a seat beside her.

“I guess.”

“The neighbors didn’t seem to think so,” he commented.

Too numb, too distanced right then, she didn’t immediately realize where the detective’s question was leading, but she wanted to cooperate. She needed to think about anything other than the horror in the room upstairs. What did Detective Evans ask, again? How she got along with Mom and Dad?

How could she possibly explain her situation? Most teenagers just thought their parents didn’t understand them. Well, Jenny really knew for a fact that they didn’t.

“Your sister is at school, and your dad is away on business, right?” Detective Evans continued.

“Yeah.”

“What happened here last night?”

“I don’t know. I was sleeping,” she said, still deadpan. This can’t be real. She couldn’t keep her thoughts from all the blood she’d seen. Then: “Mom’s dead, isn’t she?”

The detectives gave each other a look she didn’t understand.

She sniffed, feeling another round of sobs bursting to the surface. The house suddenly felt too small, too stifling, choking her with its intensity. Why didn’t anyone understand? A cry exploded from her, and she blurted it all out in such a rush that later, she wouldn’t remember saying anything at all. “There’s so much hate! Can’t you feel it? Don’t you see? No one could hate her so much!”

Detective Evans cleared his throat.

“Is that why you hurt your mom? You hate her?” Detective Crouse suddenly asked, his voice stern. He no longer looked bored.

Jenny should have been stunned by the question, but she was in shock. She said nothing. Her eyes fell to her lap as she continued to cry.

“Answer the question,” Evans demanded.

“I didn’t hurt her,” she managed between sobs.

“We know that’s not possible,” Evans said. “There’s no sign of forced entry. The murder weapon was a knife from your kitchen. Come on, Jenny. You didn’t plan this out very well. You really want us to believe you slept through that mess upstairs? You’re covered in blood. There are bloody footprints all over the place. Your footprints. You hated her, like you said. You guys had an argument of some sort, so you got rid of her.” He stood and pulled out a pair of handcuffs. “Stand up. You are under arrest for the murder of Savannah Rice.”

As she was recited her rights and handcuffed, Jenny looked at her feet. He was right, she realized. She had blood all over her.

The room blurred around her, and she fainted.

What I’m working on…Sound interesting?

I’m still looking for a title for this one, but here’s a glimpse of what I’m working on.

Eric Teague is moments away from becoming a very rich man. Thanks to him, the world of gaming is about to experience technology like it has never seen before. When his new establishment, Against the Game opens, playing video games will be a thing of history.

At Against the Game, players really experience the realm of virtual reality. There are no memory cards or chips, no controllers, not even a cord or a wire. It is really happening and the players are inside the game. If you want to play, you better get those legs running or you will lose.

As long as everything goes as planned, Eric will be set for life. He intends to make sure there are no unforeseen glitches during the upcoming test trials. Nothing will stand in his way of completing his creation.

Lacey Pruitt isn’t interested in playing games when she goes to Eric to ask him a huge favor. A terminally ill boy’s last wish is to try Eric’s new game. Will Eric say yes or will his greed cause him to deny a dying boy’s request?

Or, perhaps the supercomputer at Against the Game will make the call. Wait. Computers can’t work without commands, can they? One fateful game will determine everything. Lacey and Eric’s lives will be on the line, as will their hearts.

She has a dark complexion, long black hair and dark eyes.) – Once a troubled girl with a drug addiction, she returns home a grown woman with her life back on track. Her life gets turned back up side down when the police recruit her to work undercover to bring known mobster and drug seller Freddie Garrett to conviction.

Jason Altarez (A gorgeous guy with light brown or dirty blond hair longer than his shoulders, blue eyes, and a large smile.) – He is a popular reporter in Nags Head. As soon as Leigh gets into town, he approaches her. He’s obviously chasing her, but is he really interested in her or just her story?

Emma Combs (With a fantastic figure, auburn hair and plenty of time invested into her fashion, she is absolutely beautiful.) – She thinks of herself as a perfectionist. She and Leigh were best friends in high school. It is uncertain whether they will be able to rekindle that relationship.

Shawn Branscom (He is very sexy with short and neat brown hair, blue eyes and a great shape.) – Known to let his temper flare at the drop of a hat, he is a cop with a new promotion to the narcotics team. He’s a little gruff, but he has a definite soft spot for Emma that he is unable to hide.

1. Let’s begin by having everyone tell us a little about him or herself.

Jason grinned and leaned forward in his chair. “Shall I go first? This is a little weird. I’m usually the one asking the questions.” He looked thoughtful as he ran a hand through his light brown hair, the front falling right back where it began. “Well, I’m a reporter. I work hard. At work, they call me Ice because I refuse to give up on a story, which happens to be my biggest strength, but probably my biggest weakness as well. In my free time, I spend time with my family. I like playing basketball, swimming and sailing.”

Leigh stood to pace behind her chair as she answered. “My life is really complicated. I’m not sure how much you want to know. I was raised by the Branscom family. My teenage years were pretty bad, and they eventually kicked me out of the house. I decided to leave town…”

“…without telling anyone. Everyone thought she was dead,” Emma added.

“When I got back into town, I wasn’t exactly well received. So, that’s pretty much it. I’m just trying to make things right, but I’ll be fine. I’m tough,” Leigh said in a soft voice.

Emma went next. “I’m the manager of my parent’s hotel. I love my job. When I’m not there, I’m usually working out. I’m very ambitious. My greatest weakness would have to be that I’m a perfectionist.”

Shawn sat with his back perfectly straight, looking gruff and uncomfortable. “I’m a cop. I don’t have much time for anything else,” he said, sounding defensive as if he dared someone to argue.

Emma turned toward Shawn. “Your strength is your confidence. Your weakness is you get arrogant and your temper, of course.”

He gave her a look that wasn’t easily defined.

2. Anyone currently dating?

“No,” Jason said, still grinning. “The last time I had a serious relationship was in college. She was older and graduated before me. I haven’t heard from her since.”

Leigh still stood. “I’m not dating now. My ex-boyfriend was a drug dealer, my drug dealer actually.”

Emma just shook her head in answer.

Shawn did the same.

3. Do you believe in love at first sight? What are your views on sex in a relationship? Does love and sex have to come together?

Jason actually laughed. “Wow, what a question. I do believe in love at first sight. That’s kind of embarrassing. And, I would hope that any girl sleeping with me has feelings for me, so yes.”

Leigh began pacing again. “No and no.”

Emma shrugged. “I haven’t really thought about it.”

Shawn fidgeted, looking absolutely miserable. “That’s really a crazy question. I don’t know.”

4. When you lie in bed at night, what do you think about?

For the very first time, Jason momentarily paused. “I think about what I want in the future,” he said, his eyes sliding over his shoulder to Leigh.

“I try not to think,” Leigh said with a voice that was a bit uneven. She sounded shaky or perhaps on the verge of laughter.

“That’s easy,” Emma said. “I think about everything I have to get done the next day.”

Shawn smiled slowly. “I can’t say what I think about.”

5. Last question guys: what would it surprise people to know about you?

“A lot,” Jason said and laughed. “If I had to pick one thing, it would probably be my family. It’s big. I have three brothers and two sisters. There are six of us all together. We’re a very close family, and most people don’t see me as a family guy.”

Leigh sat back down. “That I’m alive.”

Everyone laughed.

When things grew quiet, Emma said, “It would surprise people to know that I’ve made many mistakes in my past that I’m not proud of.”

Shawn just shrugged. “I don’t know.”

Could it be this character is too tough?

Chris Chambers, my heroine in The Curse of a Mind is tough and damaged and she has lots of spunk. Some of the things that happen in her past are not for the faint of heart. I love how she overcomes and prevails throughout the story despite such a rough beginning in life.

That’s one of the messages I love to pass on to readers. No matter what happens to someone in life, they can find a way to overcome it!

But…I realize writers can go overboard. Did I make Chris too tough in this story? Here’s one reviewer that seems to think so. Read the review and share your thoughts with me! I love the feedback!

Prologue

11 Years Ago
Charlottesville, Virginia

A tear squeezed from her tightly closed eyes, and she hugged her pillow close for comfort in her sleep. A whimper escaped from her, but she didn’t wake up from the nightmare, where within, she felt like she was going to die—
Jenny’s alarm sounded at 7 AM. She smacked the snooze button. What seemed like mere seconds later, the buzzing sounded again. With a groan, she hit the snooze a second time. Two more snoozes went by before she got up to get ready for school.
Her brain felt like it was in a coma from the sleeping pill she’d taken last night. She hadn’t been able to sleep, yet again, so she’d gotten on the Internet and goofed off. Around 3 AM, the pills finally forced her eyes shut, and she’d gone into an empty, dead-like sleep, or thought she had. She didn’t remember dreaming.
She was sure she was the only seventeen-year-old with a prescription for sleeping pills, for real. And she was the only person on the planet she knew with her “gift.” It was more like a curse. Her parents made her promise not to tell anyone about it, not even her own sister, Nicole.
Mom and Dad were embarrassed by her. She didn’t need them to admit it because knowing how people felt was her “gift,” or her burden. She cringed at words like psychic or empathic. There just wasn’t a word to fully describe what she could do.
Jenny exhaustedly dragged her feet out of her rose colored bedroom down the stairs and into the kitchen. She didn’t want to go to school. She hated school! Too bad her parents wouldn’t let her skip class, she thought.
She needed coffee and a shower in that order, she decided. Or maybe she should go for an energy drink instead. Which had more caffeine? Well, it didn’t matter. She would do coffee first, then the energy drink as she drove.
It wasn’t until she started a pot of coffee that it occurred to her that her mom was mysteriously absent. An envelope sat on the table with her name on it, but the handwriting wasn’t her mom’s. It was her dad’s. Her allowance most likely, she thought. Like always, her dad was out of town on business, but at least she always got something out of him. $50 a week was the going rate for an absentee father. Not bad, huh?
Jenny’s sister was off at college. Most of the time, it was just Mom and her. So, where was Mom? She always got up early.
Jenny blinked hard several times, trying to clear the fog from her head. If she didn’t get her act together, she was going to be late. Like it mattered. Big freaking deal. It was just school.
The house was too quiet. Beyond the trickling of the brewing coffee, there was no sound, nothing. Either her mom was still asleep or she was gone. But there was no note on the table. Mom always left a note if she was going somewhere.
“Mom! You getting up or what?” Jenny yelled.
No response came.
Jenny groaned loudly. The coffee wasn’t ready yet. She climbed the steps, stomping to announce her frustration at having to go back upstairs without her coffee, or breakfast. She was hungry.
“Mom!”
How irritating that her mom wasn’t answering. She was the daughter, not the parent. She wasn’t supposed to have to wake up her mom. Jeez.
She burst through the bedroom door. “Mom—“
Jenny froze, the word on her lips fading into a quiver.
Blood was everywhere—a large puddle on the bed, splatters on the walls, curtains, ceiling, floor—everywhere. Jenny didn’t see her mom.
She felt like she couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think, couldn’t move. She didn’t want to comprehend what she saw. This couldn’t be happening! This is not real. It can’t be real!
Where was Mom?
A scream so shrill and loud that it bordered nonhuman filled the house. Jenny realized it had come from her. She choked the sound away, a tremble spreading through her from head to toe.
“No, no, no! Mom! Mom!”
She needed to call for help! She turned around unsteadily, panic causing her to lose control, and her hand brushed against the door jam. A tingling feeling was her only warning that the sensations were coming through her medicated head.
No images came this time. Just thoughts, senses and feelings.
Jenny felt rage, but it wasn’t her own. The emotion was so strong that it momentarily brought her to her knees. She heard weeping. Heat rose within, burning her eyes. She felt her nostrils flare. The feelings were aimed at her mom. How could someone hate Mom so much?
It was too much for her. She felt sick. She forced herself back to her feet and forward, ran down the steps and to the phone.
The rage faded, dissipating to a memory. Her tears calmed, turning into slow trickles down her cheeks. Shock and total numbness took over.
She didn’t remember telling the operator that she needed help, but she must have because the 9-1-1 dispatcher told her she needed to stay on the line until help arrived. Time held no meaning. People arrived, whether minutes or hours later, she had no idea.
Jenny placed the phone back on the receiver and physically dropped. The sofa was behind her and caught her, but she would have sat whether there was furniture there or not. She stared blankly at the wall, just blank. The house got busy around her, people walking in and out. Lots of talking, lots of work.
Jenny didn’t call anyone else—not her dad, not her sister, no one. She couldn’t move, couldn’t think, couldn’t breathe. It felt like the room was closing in on her.
Her mom was dead. She hadn’t seen a body, but she knew. She knew.
Two men detached from the hustle and bustle to walk up to her. “My name is Detective Evans. My partner is Detective Crouse. We need to ask you some questions.”
Jenny tried to focus. The detective that spoke was older with a deep receding hairline and clear piercing eyes. The other was an average middle-aged man that looked bored with his job. Both men stared at her.
She didn’t know what they were thinking or feeling. Her gift was strongest with touch. Regardless, it wouldn’t work now anyway. She couldn’t focus! She couldn’t think!
“Okay,” she said, her voice deadpan.
“Do you get along with your parents?” Detective Evans asked as he took a seat beside her.
“I guess.”
“The neighbors didn’t seem to think so,” he commented.
Too numb, too distanced right then, she didn’t immediately realize where the detective’s question was leading. She readily jumped at any chance to project her thoughts away from her mom to answering Detective Evans, or she tried. What was the question, again? How she got along with Mom and Dad?
How could she possibly explain her situation? Most teenagers just thought their parents didn’t understand them. Well, Jenny really knew for a fact that they didn’t.
“Your sister is at school, and your dad is away on business, right?” Detective Evans continued.
“Yeah.”
“What happened here last night?”
“I don’t know. I was sleeping,” she said, still deadpan. This can’t be real. Then: “Mom’s dead, isn’t she?”
The detectives gave each other a look that she didn’t understand.
She sniffed, feeling another round of sobs bursting to the surface. The house suddenly felt too small, too stifling, choking her with its intensity. Why didn’t anyone understand? A cry exploded from her, and she blurted it all out in such a rush that later, she wouldn’t remember saying anything at all. “There’s so much hate! Can’t you feel it? Don’t you see? No one could hate her so much!”
Detective Evans cleared his throat.
“Is that why you hurt your mom? You hate her?” Detective Crouse suddenly asked, his voice stern. He no longer looked bored.
Jenny should have been stunned by the question, but she was in shock. She said nothing. Her eyes fell to her lap as she continued to cry.
“Answer the question,” Evans demanded.
“I didn’t hurt her,” she managed between sobs.
“We know that’s not possible,” Evans said. “There’s no sign of forced entry. Come on, Jenny. You didn’t plan this out very well. You really want us to believe you slept through that mess upstairs? You’re covered in blood. There are bloody footprints all over the place. Your footprints. You hated her, like you said, so you got rid of her.” He stood and pulled out a pair of handcuffs. “Stand up. You are under arrest for the murder of Savannah Rice.”
As she was recited her rights and handcuffed, Jenny looked at her feet. He was right, she realized. She had blood all over her.
The room blurred around her, and she fainted.

This was a gripping novel right from the opening sentence and I could not put it down. There were so many twists and turns and I loved how it kept you guessing and even rooting for the “bad” person throughout the novel. I am looking forward to reading many more novels by this very talented author.
Medical thriller, FBI and police intrigue, mafia, hitmen = my perfect novel.
This novel will keep you guessing and will make you want to read it over and over again. It is actually back on my list for books to read and I want to read it again. Not many books after being read, make this list so that tells you how much I enjoyed it.
I would highly recommend this novel to everyone!!!

Aiden wants no more pain or death on his conscience, but the person targeting him is intent on doing just that, and Aiden is only part of the equation. Chris and Aiden try desperately to keep her team together, but this is one killer with an inside tract, and the harder they fight, the tighter the net closes around them.

Read this novel and see if you can honestly answer the question of what it would take to make you a killer, because no matter how righteous you think you are, everyone has a breaking point. For the protagonist in this story, I believe it is a lifetime of feeling defeated, and having known so little love in his life that losing any amount of that is horribly devastating. As for Chris and Aiden, I feel they could very easily have succumbed to the same fate, but instead turned their fears and anger inward, blaming themselves and putting up walls to keep others out. Put yourself in their place as tides of emotional and psychological warfare wash over them and really experience how their feelings for each other may be their only chance for survival.

Lucky was outside roaming for his last time of the night. She glanced at her watch—9:12 PM. It had been a long day to say the least. Her typical work schedule during an investigation was 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Getting beat up on the first day had encouraged her to put in extra hours.

She hadn’t seen Aidan or Leon since dinner. She was still in the dog house, and she deserved it, she knew. She had been hard on Aidan, too hard considering he was paying her salary. With the exception of that one slip with Harry Jacobson, she had never talked to a client in that way before. Was she losing control? He made her feel on fire whenever he looked at her. Lashing out at him was her only defense.

“Sabrina and I slept together the night before the wedding.”

If not for years of training, Chris would have jumped out of her skin at the sound of that velvet voice. She had just been thinking about him and there he stood. The living room suddenly felt very small.

Aidan stood by the wall, keeping his arms crossed and his posture lax. “We both wanted her first time to be special and I knew I couldn’t provide that with a ten-minute session before I left after the ceremony. Sabrina wouldn’t have cheated on me. The baby was mine.”

Chris stayed silent, letting him say all he had to say.

“You don’t believe that, do you?”

She honestly didn’t want to hurt him, even if her actions at dinner suggested otherwise. She shook her head no. She figured if she kept her mouth shut, it couldn’t do any damage.

“Why?”

She stared at him for a long time without answering.

“I want to hear it. Maybe the pina-coladas were non-alcoholic. Or maybe she just didn’t know she couldn’t drink because she hadn’t been to the doctor yet. What aren’t you saying?”

She shrugged as she said, “Hunch, mostly. Mr. Hilton talked about that baby as if it were his. He said he was close to Sabrina before you even entered the picture. There’s every chance I’m wrong, but my job is to figure out the whole picture. To see the things you aren’t seeing, part of that is guesswork. I can’t get to point Z without making a few assumptions. I’m trying to help you, Mr. Wolfe. To do that, I need you to be perfectly honest with me. Mr. Hilton had a definite bone to pick with you. Are you still sleeping with Sabrina?”

“No,” Aidan said.

She was more relieved by his answer than was professionally necessary.

“At least not lately.”

Damn. “When?”

“Our anniversary would have been in April. We got together for a drink and…it just happened. It meant nothing.”

Two months ago. Ms. Peterson was in her first trimester. “Then, this baby could be yours.”

He stared at her dumbfounded for a moment. Jeez, was the guy always this dense? She got more specific. “Did you even use protection?”

“No.”

Double Damn. She wanted to shake this stubborn man and knock some sense into him. He was fooling around with another man’s fiancée and wondered why someone wanted him dead. She hated domestic cases. She also hated the situation because she really hated to think this man still had feelings for his ex-
wife. And she didn’t want to analyze why his love life would bother her.

Leon entered the room with an easy stroll and an easier smile. “Hell Chris, maybe you should just move into this crib. Are you going to leave any time soon?”

Her answer was absorbed by the loud crash of the bay window imploding. Glass flew through the air faster than the noise traveled. The sheet covering the window collapsed to the floor in a ball.

5 Stars for Altered Beginnings by Destiny Booze:
A tense read...

I started Altered Beginnings on Saturday morning, and finished it Sunday night. I was caught up in the story from the prologue, and didn't want to put it down.

I'm not a great book reviewer, tending to lean towards "I loved it" or "I was bored". And in the interest of full disclosure, I will state that I follow author Destiny Booze on Twitter, and she gifted me with a copy of this book.

So I'm very happy to honestly say I did love it.

Leigh Lawson was raised in an orphanage for the first few years of her life, then placed with a foster family. We first meet Leigh in the orphanage, then we fast forward to her as a college graduate who has received a graduation party invitation from her best friend in the small town she grew up in. We learn that Leigh left town right after high school graduation, and that the whole town hated her, and apparently still do. We don't know all the circumstances yet of her leaving, and those unfold over the course of the story.

There are two men, her foster brother, Shawn, and a reporter, Jason. We think Shawn is a good guy and Jason a bad guy. Then we are given evidence that maybe it's the other way around. And then more evidence to the contrary, and for much of the book you aren't sure who is the good guy, who is the bad guy, if they are both good guys, or both bad guys. It makes for a roller coaster ride.

The violence in the book is a little more than I'm accustomed to in a romantic suspense story, but it's not gratuitous or presented in sickening detail. It's just there and fits into the world the characters are involved in.

All in all, I would definitely recommend it, and I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

A haunted past that comes back, a sex club, dirty cops, a hitman, drugs, the FBI, an old boyfriend, reporters, romance and sandy beaches. Altered Beginnings grabs you right from the start and keeps you reading.

Leigh is a girl that had a long hard difficult life growing up, one that sends her running away from Nags Head and has her believing that she is unlovable. Jason is the all around Mr. Perfect, the kind every girl wants and every guy wants to be. The chemistry between the two builds from the beginning and you sense right away that there is something there before you even find out the reason behind it. Leigh returns to Nags Head to find herself right back in the situation that caused her to leave 4 years ago but Jason is now there to help her through it. The problem is that Leigh cant trust anyone but herself and that causes tension between the two. Jason forces Leigh to except his help anyway when they come up against some extremely dangerous people.

I loved Slick who is not your typical cold-hearted hitman. He is the kind of guy who makes your skin crawl but you cant help but be drawn to him anyway. Then there was Emma who is supposed to be Leigh's friend, I was unsure if I liked her or if I wanted to smack her. Then comes the foster brother Shawn I have mixed feelings about him too. I felt deep down he was a good guy stuck between a rock and a hard place but I also thought he needed to grow more back bone. One of my favorite characters by far was Nate, Jason's brother. He was hot, funny and protective just what a girl needs. I hope the Author considers giving Nate his own book.

The romance was there but the love scenes were a little short, I like a little more intensity and detail but over all I thought Altered Beginnings was a fast paced suspense filled read and I am looking forward to reading the next one in the series.

The story first introduces us to Leigh Lawson, our heroine, who survived a traumatic childhood and difficult teenage years ending with her being kicked out of her foster parent’s house. But come home, clean and with a college degree, only to find out everything thinks she's dead (or "worse").

Then enters our hero. Jason Altarez is present by her side through the story, proving his dedication to her as he struggles to keep her safe. He is a man of his word... or is he?

Ms. Booze has written a provocative story here. It grabs the reader from page one and keeps them reading through the end. The grammar and technical writing is spot on, keeping the reader in the story and not distracting from the action.

Many suspense novels have the problem of not being complex enough, or too easy to figure out before the end of the story. Altered Beginnings does not fall into this category. The suspense level stayed high and offered a satisfying conclusion. Also, the atmosphere added so much to the level of suspense in the story. Ms. Booze used this well to her advantage.

Altered Beginnings begins strong and keeps the reader until the end, delivering a satisfying conclusion. Don’t miss out on this wonderful story. A+ job, Ms. Booze.

I'm beginning the year with a romantic thriller!

Description
The headline in the small town newspaper read Girl Missing, Presumed Dead or Worse. Leigh Lawson returned to Nags Head, North Carolina after four years with a huge shock. That big and bold headline was about her! Everyone thought she was dead! The truth was that she was doing well. While gone, she had gotten clean from drugs and worked hard to get her bachelor's degree in engineering. With her life back on track, she returns home in hope that she will receive a warm welcome. Instead, she gets the townsfolks' disdain. Leigh's life soon spirals out of control when the police recruit her for an undercover assignment. They want her to go back to the life of her troubled teenage years, back into the drugs, and help them to bring the local drug supplier to conviction. It may be Leigh's only chance to redeem herself with her family and friends. If she can complete this one assignment, the town will forgive her. The only problem is that she needs to figure out how to stay alive in the process... Angelica Chappell is brilliant, rich, and beautiful so her life must be charmed, right? Unfortunately, although Angelica is famous for developing a new cancer drug that may actually cure cancer, she has attracted the attention of serial killer who not only wants her dead but wants her reputation ruined and her drug pulled from usage. Angelica is certain that the drug, Krytonix, works and that it has been sabotaged but she can’t imagine why someone would do that and it is up to her to prove her drug works; if she lives long enough. William Pierce is a burned out undercover FBI agent gone rogue and when his path crosses Angelica’s there is plenty of sparks and the danger escalates. Can Angelica make William care enough about anything to help her? If William decides to help, can he play by the rules or will he make up his own?

This is a very intriguing plot. A researcher has possibly found the cure for cancer and instead of that making the world a better place, greed and pure evil come out of the woodwork and actually work to make the drug fail. Angelica is worshiped one moment and then hated the next. I loved Angelica’s character, although for being such a brilliant person; I found it difficult to believe she could really be so naïve. Yes, she has been really sheltered but with today’s technology and the rapid availability of information, plus she was an avid reader; I found it difficult to believe she wouldn’t put things together a little faster and have some survival skills. William is a disaster and he knows it. He knows he has gone too far the wrong direction and sees no way to redeem himself. Well good for him but I sure wanted him to get over his pity party a little sooner and get back in the game. Protecting and helping Angelica escape from the evil targeting her seems like a valid for redemption to me! Unfortunately, the bad guy has no intention of waiting while Angelica and William get their act together so from the first page this story is full of repeated attempts to get to and harm Angelica and anyone around her. So despite my skepticism or maybe because of it, I found myself deeply involved in this story, unwilling to put it down for any length of time until I found out what was going to happen! If you love danger, intrigue, and rapidly developing plots that rush the characters toward a dramatic ending, you will love Predetermined Endings!

Every Friday (let's make it a Fun Friday), I will be posting emails from readers. Please help me get this off to a great start by sending me some fun stuff in, okay? Writer’s Block?

Do you think writer’s block is real or imagined? I believe that every writer can experience a loss of momentum in their story for many different reasons.

One issue may be the lack of knowing where you want the story to go. Another issue may be that there’s not enough substance to the story. It may need a sideline plot to sustain the book. The characters could also be too flat to carry the story.

There are many different reasons for a story to slow down. It happens to everyone. That doesn’t mean you need to give up on your idea. It could just mean that you need to choose a new direction for the plot, especially if you don’t do an outline before writing or if you discover that your outline isn't flowing as you go.

Don’t let a loss of momentum discourage you into trashing your story. Have a brainstorming session with your plot and characters. Write down anything that comes to mind. I bet something will spark back to life. If not, try a different approach. You could try writing in a different setting to get the creative juices flowing. Sit down in a different room while you write, or go outside, maybe go to a coffee shop. Maybe you could combine two story ideas together into one powerful plot. Sit down and do a more detailed character profile. There are lots of different things you can do.

When all else fails, take a break. Get some fresh air. Exercise. Sleep on it. I constantly come up with ideas in my sleep. Something will come to you if you give it some time.

Just don’t give up! “Writer’s block” doesn’t have to be a problem. It could be a blessing. What would have been a mediocre story could turn into something that really stands out after further brainstorming.

Let the muse flow. Just keep writing! It doesn’t have to be perfect. The editing process comes next. ; )

I'm frequently asked who my favorite authors are. So, here's the answer. I will read anything ever written by Tami Hoag, Dean Koontz or Allison Brennan. I LOVE those authors, absolutely love them.

With that said, I read a whole lot. My favorite genres are romantic suspense, mystery, thriller and horror. Reading is a passionate hobby of mine. If a book is laying around, no matter what type, I will most likely pick it up and give it a try.

Like so many others in the world, I fell in love with TWILIGHT by Stephenie Meyer, so I've been mixing in some paranormal reads lately. I wish I could kiss Stephenie for bringing so many new readers to the business, or for enticing former readers to return. So many people are rediscovering their love of books and that's awesome! Yay for TWILIGHT!

Let's get involved and help kids with Type I diabetes

New author, Destiny Booze, shows real writing potential in her debut novel, Altered Beginnings. The story was interesting from beginning to end, and I was genuinely surprised by some of the twists in the plot. The heroine was interesting and anything but clichéd. I also liked the hero, but I wished his character had been explored a bit more....I greatly enjoyed Altered Beginnings and am looking forward to reading Ms. Booze’s second novel, Predetermined Endings.

Interview with Author Sheila Stewart

Welcome Sheila Stewart!

Start by giving us your official title. Then, tell us a little about yourself.

Well, I would love the title of Goddess but I’ll settle for paranormal Romance Author. J

I write mostly Paranormal romance including stories about ghosts, spirits, mediums, possessions, vampires and shape shifters. I’ve been married for 24 years and I have three wonderful children ages 14, 17 and 21. Writing has been a big part of my life since my early childhood when I would tell tales to my cousins and friends. Aside from writing, I like to create in other forms such as painting, drawing, home décor and book covers and banner art.

1. In your bio, you credit your husband for pushing you into achieving publication for your writing. Now that you are a successful and multi-published author, what message would you like to give him? If he hadn't been there for you, do you think you would be where you are today?

Oh I highly doubt I would be here today if it wasn’t for him and every time I say that he tells me I don’t give myself enough credit. But it’s true. I’ve always loved to write but I never thought I had what it took. My stories weren’t good enough to make it into a book. Even with his encouragement to look into getting published, I stalled. It wasn't until he called a local publishing house and asked about becoming published that I finally got the ball rolling.

What message would I like to give him? “I’m here today because of your belief in me, a belief no one else had. You gave me the courage to be a better woman.”

2. If you didn't imagine yourself as a writer, how did you see yourself before you were published? How about now? Where do you see yourself in five years?

I never thought I would ever be anything more than a housewife and mother. The belief that I grew up with was that men had careers, woman raised families. Secretly, I often dreamt of either being a famous dancer or working as a therapist for troubled children.

Where do I see myself in five years? Still plugging out the stories with possibly making it to the New York Times best sellers list just once.

3. You describe yourself as a romantic, what is your definition of true love?

True love is when two souls are connected in both body and mind. True love is not only knowing someone loves you completely, but doesn’t mind when you are wrong, having a bad day, feeling sad or needing help. I think it is also very important to be friends. Without friendship, how can you love your mate?

4. What would it surprise readers to know about you?

Well, there probably are several things but we’ll start with my being shy. J

Yep, believe it or not, I am a shy person. I’m not comfortable in crowds which makes Book signing and TV interviews rather difficult.

Another thing that might surprise them is…I have premonitions. I’ve dreamt of occurrences that have come true and not just for those around me, but in the world. I’ve dreamt of plane crashes, earthquakes and so forth.

One more? I have actually spoken to a ghost. Yep, that is fact. When I was 8 I was visited by a woman who had died in the home we lived in. She stood at my side, comforting me as I watched my house go down in flames, as I watched my mother race in and out of the house to gather our meager belongings. She was the influence for the first book in my Passion series, Discovery in Passion.

5. What do you like to read? What are you reading now?

I like to read pretty much exactly what I write. Right now I am reading J.D. Robb’s book, Salvation in Death. I love her In Death series. On my to be read list: Suite 606, a collaboration of several authors including Nora Roberts. Am also finishing up Sherylin Kenyon’s book, Acheron. I love reading suspense novels. I like the edge of my seat, scare the crap out of me stories. J

6. What else do you want people to know about you? Do you have a message for readers?

My message to the readers would be: Keep reading. Without your support, I along with every author out there would not be where we are today without you.

7. Is there anything that I didn't ask that I should have?

Let me think….. Yes, I wear underwear. No, I am not a natural redhead. I do not wear my pajamas all day long. I love to scare my children by playing pranks on them. It’s not against the law and I have so much fun doing it. LOL

I think that’s about it. LOL As you can see, I have a silly sense of humor.

8. Tell us about your newest work. What's it about? Where can we buy it?

“Behind you! Get down.”

The gun came up in his hand, aimed at her head. She felt the presence of the vampire as he jumped out from behind the dumpster. As she spun around to take him down, the gun fired, hitting the vamp in the right shoulder. He jerked back, screeching like a banshee.

“What the hell are you doing?” she yelled at the man with the gun as she ran to the vamp. “Daisy, stay!” Daisy sat as she’d been instructed while Sienna knelt down beside the screaming vamp. She pressed her knee to the vamp’s bleeding shoulder to ensure that he wouldn’t move. “You are under arrest for breaking the laws of human and vampire and will be detained in the local jail while awaiting trial.”

“You’re a cop?” the guy behind her responded.

“Yeah, I’m a cop. Oh, stop your screaming already,” she yelled at the vamp, then flipped him onto his belly and pulled his arms to his back, pinning them in one hand while she searched for her handcuffs. “Damn it, why don’t I have my cuffs on me. Wanna tell me why you were about to attack me?”

“I wasn’t…honest…I was only…out for a walk. Yeah, I was walking. I’m going to sue the cops for harassment. I was minding my own. Fuck, my shoulder is killing me. Police brutality!”

“Shut the hell up. No one gives a damn.”

“Here.”

Sienna glanced up to see a set of shiny silver handcuffs dangling down before her. Glancing up, she took a moment to survey the gentleman and noticed he wasn’t bad on the eyes. His dark brown hair was messed up but somehow looked natural. And wow! The guy had a hell of a body. Broad shoulders, wide chest, and narrow waist. His face was pretty decent to look at, even with that thin line of hair over his upper lip that ran down the sides of his mouth to cover his chin. He had nice eyes, dark, round, with long lashes. “I’d prefer a regulation set rather than your bondage toys.”

“These are regulation. I’m a detective. Nathan Powers,” he introduced in a deep, throaty voice that sounded as if he’d had one too many cigarettes.

The vamp squirming beneath her, she took the cuffs. Before slapping them on the vamp’s wrists she made sure they were regulation. Flipping him onto his back, Sienna pinned him with her knee as she had before. “Don’t try anything stupid.”

“Bitch!” the vamp spat.

“What the hell’s with the yellow contacts and fake fangs?”

Sienna glanced over her shoulder as she responded to the detective. “What? You’ve never seen a vampire before?”

“A what?”

“A vampire.”

“I heard you. I thought I’d seen it all, but I guess not. Now we’ve got junkies playing vampire,” The detective chuckled with a shake of his head.

One look at the guy told her he was serious. “Oh jeez, he’s a virgin.” She rolled her eyes. “I told you to shut up.” She yanked the screaming vamp to his feet. “This is a vampire, not a fake, the real deal and if you plan on being in Jacob’s Cove for any amount of time you might want to be on the lookout for them. Some of them refuse to abide by the new laws. Isn’t that right, screamer?”

“Seriously though, he’s a vampire like the blood-sucking kind?”

“Don’t know any other kind.”

“Shouldn’t you like…you know, jam a wooden stake through his heart? I can’t believe I just said that.” He laughed boldly.

Was he for real?

She didn’t care for the sarcasm in his voice. “Neither can I. We prefer to rehabilitate them rather than turning them to dust.” Holding the vamp in one hand, she pulled her cell phone out with the other and dialed the station. “Lieutenant Storm here. I have a rogue vamp I need brought in.”

“I wasn’t doing anything, you stupid bitch.”

She clamped onto the squirming vamp a little tighter as she gave her location. She slipped her phone back into her shirt pocket when she was through and gave the vamp a hard shove against the dumpster. “Right, you were only skulking in the dark because you needed a smoke, right?”

“It’s a free world last time I looked.”

“Sure, except when you’re attempting to drink someone dry. Save it for the judge; I’m done listening.”

“You can’t prove anything. I’m innocent.”

“Do you know what I am?” she asked as she leaned in real close. “I’m a Tejakkan which means I have precog abilities. I saw you moments before you jumped out and I saw just what you’d planned to do so save your ‘I’m innocent’ act for someone who gives a damn.”

“Bitch!”

“That’s right and remember it.”

In Altered Beginnings by Destiny Booze Leigh Lawson is finally free of the drug filled life she had led. She finally comes home to her best friend Emma Comb's graduation party and finds out the whole town hates her except Jason Altarez, a hot reporter who feels there is an even hotter story with Leigh being back in town. There is only one small problem he falls for his story.

Leigh's brother, Shawn Branscom, is a cop who wants his sister to go undercover to get evidence against one Freddie Garrett, a big drug dealer in town. As Leigh puts her life and the lives of her loved ones around her in danger by going undercover will she learn that she can trust Jason? Can she stay clean while being undercover?

I loved this story from beginning to end as well as everything in between. The characters were well developed and I could see and feel everything that they were seeing and feeling. I loved the scenes where Leigh is wondering if she can trust Jason.

Meet the Characters of Predetermined Endings

Join the main characters of Predetermined Endings for their very first interview by Author Destiny Booze! The subject is ambitions and careers as seen by each character at the beginning of their story.

Angelica Chappell (Naturally beautiful and feminine with light brown hair and light blue eyes) – She is a single, young scientist with an exceptionally high IQ. Her greatest achievement is Krytonix, a drug proven to slow the spread of cancer cells. She works for Chappell Pharmaceuticals, owned by her wealthy grandfather, Bruce Chappell.

Bruce Chappell – Revered as a man with resources, influence and power, Bruce pushes Angelica to succeed in his lab as he searches for the cure to cancer.

William Pierce (Italian good looks) – Nicknamed Slick during his time undercover, he is now a rogue FBI Agent, looking for answers and redemption. The trail he follows will lead him to Chappell Pharmaceuticals.

Leigh Lawson (Of both African American and Caucasian heritage, she is attractive and pretty. She has a dark complexion, long black hair and dark eyes.) – Once a troubled girl with a drug addiction, she is now a successful engineer working on a kids' fun zone. She currently resides with her boyfriend, Jason Altarez.

Jason Altarez (A gorgeous guy with dirty blond hair longer than his shoulders, blue eyes, and a large smile.) – He is a popular reporter in Nags Head. He wants to land a story about Chappell Pharmaceuticals, but so far, he has been turned down.

1. What is your definition of success?

Angelica smiled shyly. "Good question. I think..."

Bruce interrupted her. He placed a hand on Angelica's arm to stop her answer. Leaning forward, he said, "Our definition of success may sound like an unattainable ambition, but I believe it will become a reality at Chappell Pharmaceuticals. Our definition of success is finding a cure for cancer."

Jason challenged Bruce and Angelica with a pointed look. "Surprise, surprise. The personal measure of the rich and famous is to become more rich and famous," he said, his voice thick with disdain. "I think I have many different definitions of success. The most important is measured by my home and family. That's what matters most."

Leigh chewed a thumb nail as she waited for her turn to answer. "I guess I agree with Jason."

They all turned toward William where he stood stiffly in the back of the room, his face unreadable. His body stood tall, solid and alert, like a bodyguard. A toothpick stuck in the corner of his mouth. When everyone stared bluntly at him, he gave a small shrug. "Success is simple. It's survival of the fittest. That's all."

2. What is your greatest fear?

A polite smile stayed frozen on Angelica's face, a soft pink highlighting her cheeks. She didn't attempt to answer.

Bruce chuckled humorlessly, and said, "Nothing. Failure is the only thing I fear, and that's not an option." Then added pointedly, "Not even for the rich and famous."

Jason's eyes rolled upward for a beat, then returned. "My biggest fear is losing the people that matter to me," he said softly, his eyes sliding to Leigh.

Looking uncomfortable, and refusing to meet anyone's eyes, Leigh quickly mumbled, "Screwing up. Again."

A silence followed. Again, everyone turned to look at William. The toothpick slid to the other side of his mouth. Otherwise, he didn't move. "The land of the dead," he said. He didn't elaborate.

3. Who has influenced your life the most? Do you have a mentor?

Angelica's smile faded. Her face paled.

What looked like a quick, warning glare was shot at her from Bruce. He said, "Well, I'd like to think I have always provided Angelica with anything she needs."

Jason looked thoughtful for a moment. "There's been many different influences and mentors. My family in particular." He glanced quickly in William's direction. "Friends," he added softly.

Leigh shifted in her chair. Jason took her hand, and she settled back again. "I don't know. There wasn't anyone really. Not until... I guess Emma and Shawn are my answer. They couldn't make it today."

William moved, and the room grew tense in anticipation. He walked to the opposite wall and stood before the group, instead of behind it. He faced Jason. "My parents," he said. His eyes sharpened on Jason. "And friends," he added.

4. What are your dreams now? What do you want to happen in your life?

Angelica glanced at Bruce expectantly.

Bruce beamed. "There are so many things we want at Chappell Pharmaceuticals. We want to keep producing the drugs that save lives. There is so much we have planned."

Jason sighed a sound of disgust at that answer. "Bruce, if you want to talk about Chappell Pharmaceuticals, you should do an interview with me. These questions are meant to be directed at Angelica personally. Not you, not the lab. Why don't you try letting her answer for once?" Then, he visibly reigned it in and said, "Anyway, my dreams are of family. A beautiful wife, kids, happiness..."

Again, Leigh wouldn't look at anyone when she answered. "Happiness is what we all want, I think. It's just too damn bad it seems so hard to find."

For the first time, William looked slightly uncomfortable. He looked to the floor. "Peace. I just want peace."

5. One last question: how do you cope with failure?

No one smiled this time.

Angelica said, "I try again."

Bruce firmly countered, "We don't fail."

"She's right. Try again," Jason said.

Leigh said, "Try something new."

William said, "Correct the problem."

6. Anyone have anything to add? Any advice to pass along?

Angelica quietly cleared her throat and said, "Thank you for the interview."

Bruce nodded his agreement.

Jason said, "My advice to anyone with a dream is to keep at it. Never give up. Persistence is the key."

Leigh said, "I think you have to learn to believe in yourself."

William said nothing.

Leigh left her foster home and never looked back until she received an invitation to her best friend’s college graduation party. It is not until she attends the party that Leigh learns she is infamous for her disappearance, earning scorn from her step-brother and most of the town.

Jason is a reporter and feels there is a story about the beautiful woman who re-appeared and shocked the town. Soon though, he learns that not only is Leigh an interesting story, but she is in danger from a drug dealer and the police.

In the horrific world of child abuse, drug dealing, and small town "good ole boy“ politics, Leigh doesn't know who, if anyone, she can count on. While she feels for Jason, he may the biggest threat around her.

Leigh is fascinating, and Jason is intriguing as the intrepid journalist. The friendship she has with her brother and former best friend give the tale a warmth that the extremely serious mystery needs. The drugs, prostitution, and violence can be harsh, but the players' concern for others keeps the story encouraging. The dialogue is well done, and relatively clean for a book dealing with violence. While the bad guy is known early, the reasons are worth waiting for. Leigh's interaction with the villain and the police require a logic jump, but this is a very interesting book. The dual love stories added to the book and were a perfect platform for changing loyalties. The sequel is set up well, without being flagrant. I look forward to reading it when it comes out.

For Destiny Booze, writing was a means of escape, an outlet, a source of fun and entertainment, and yes, a deep seeded passion above all else. But, it was never something to be taken seriously, until now.
After years and years of writing that began as soon as she was capable of holding a pencil, Booze's debut romantic suspense novel, Altered Beginnings was released May 15 from Whimsical Publications.
"It doesn't feel real," Booze said. "I've seen the book, held it, flipped through it, even signed a few copies for people, but the connection still isn't there. I need someone to pinch me." When she saw the final published paperback for the first time, Booze recalled thinking, "That's really my book? What kind of alternate universe did I wake up in this morning?"
The publication sure was a big shock to Booze and her family. "I remember my mom squealing with joy," Booze recalled. "Then, she said, I didn't know you knew how to do it." It was a statement that echoed inside Booze's head. She hadn't known either, but she did it.
Booze grew up at Jellystone Park Campground, a resort that her family managed. It was located a few miles out of Buchanan, in Arcadia. She described her childhood as fun, but a lot of hard work each summer. Along with her two brothers, she was expected to carry her own weight and help with whatever needed to be done for the camping season.
She saw herself as a small-town girl with dreams that didn't venture further than her front porch. "I always thought that I would take over at the campground. My brothers didn't seem interested, and I loved it there." She attended college, working toward a business degree, but the English classes were always her favorite. She loved the writing assignments.
A wrench was thrown into those plans when Jellystone was sold in 1999. The new owner was interested in a more hands-on approach to the business and took over the management duties. Booze's family found themselves searching for a new home, and moved to Roanoke. "My dad started working for UPS, but I felt utterly lost. The campground was all that I knew," Booze said.
She began writing more and more. It was more than a hobby. It was a coping mechanism. "I wrote my first book in high school, and though I can't say that it was good, I had loads of fun writing it. When I lost Jellystone, I tried writing a book about a girl at a campground, but it was too hard. I was too close to the situation. I must have started that story five times or better just to trash it every time," she said.
The next few years Booze described her life as an unconscious exploration to find herself. She job hopped from several different career paths. She tried day care, office work, even a couple positions in healthcare, but nothing settled her into a rhythm. "Nothing felt right," she said. "When I was at Jellystone, I felt confident in myself, and I was searching for that sureness again, but I just couldn't find it."
In between jobs, Booze wrote the book that would lead to her first publication. She began researching the publishing industry, and sending her manuscript to publishers. "I can't begin to tell you how many rejections I went through. All I can say is there were a bunch," she said.
Last year, she took a job as a community journalist with the Fincastle Herald. "Writing felt comfortable, and the restlessness within me instantly settled. I loved writing for the paper and it helped pay the bills, but writing books is where my heart kept leading me.”
Then, it happened. As she opened another letter from a publisher she thought, “probably another rejection.” But this time it was a legitimate offer with a real contract.
This year, for the first time, Booze became a fulltime novelist. "I know it's what I'm meant to do," she said. "It feels right."
Altered Beginnings is the first book in a series by Destiny Booze called the Outer Banks Suspense Series. It is available now through Barnes and Noble. Here’s why. July 4th is just around the corner and I want to honor a hero. Here’s another why. Altered Beginnings is full of heroes.

Leigh Lawson, the main character of Altered Beginnings is a true hero. She overcomes an abusive childhood, puts herself through college and lands a highly successful career. Yet, that’s not the reason she’s a hero. She agrees to work with the police to put a mobster in jail. Yet, there again, that is not the reason. None of the obvious reasons for heroism apply here. The most important aspect about Leigh is that in order to do all of the above, she has to begin the process of accepting herself, flaws and all, and loving herself. Shouldn’t we all do the same?

Is it too much for a reader if a dog dies in a thriller?

I'm currently writing a romantic thriller that is pretty edgy. I received some feedback that surprised me from an editor. She said that I would lose readers that are animal lovers because of a scene with an animal? Is that true?

I'm also an animal lover. I don't want to offend anyone. Honestly, it never occurred to me that it would be a problem. It's a work of fiction. It's not even like a movie where a real animal is needed. Still, the scene is pretty violent.

Be sure to keep checking my daily blog—The Smiling Pains of Novelist Destiny Booze for updates, or to read a post about life, faith or writing. I’m just sure that I can change the world through one smile at a time. Here’s a sample of one post from this week.

What a shame that we live with shame.
Have you ever noticed how much shame that we live with?
The privileged feel ashamed that they have too much, the poor feel ashamed that they haven't enough, the middle class feel ashamed about all the stress they go through to get what they have. Workaholics feel shame that they are never home, stay-at-home moms feel shame that they never go anywhere, though it is no doubt a fact that both of those classes of people work very hard. People with no children feel ashamed, those with too many children feel ashamed, those with one child worry about spoiling their kid. Is there ever a situation where we don't have to feel ashamed?
I recently got laid off from the paper I worked for, and I felt ashamed. I immediately started looking for more work, but today I've decided to stop. I have a full-time job writing books. It is a real job. I work very hard at it. It doesn't pay much yet, but it eventually will. Until then, I refuse to waste one more minute of one more day apologizing for having a job that I love. I won't be ashamed to call myself an author. That's what I am.
In my opinion, the first step we need to all take is to stop comparing ourselves to others. We cannot possibly judge our own success against others because our lives are different. We're supposed to be running our own race here. We can't compare journeys that went in opposite directions. It's beyond our grasp. Only our higher power can know if we are at the point we are supposed to be by now. The second step is to accept ourselves for who we are.
Let's give ourselves a break. If we're not happy with ourselves or our lives, we don't have to be in a constant state of shame. Let's accept where we are and make plans for the future.

• There will be two additions to the creative corner for April from two talented people. One is a special poem by Jenny Williams. The other is a gorgeous picture from the portfolio of Corrie Campellone!
• I have the pleasure of interviewing published Novelist J.A. Hunsinger - a man with a very interesting story to tell about his adventure from a career in aviation to the publishing industry. Drop by Wednesday, April 22nd to read his story.
• Also, my very first interview is coming! It will be done by Tamela Quijas at her website http://www.tamelaquijas.wordpress.com. How awesome is that? It will be posted on April 9th and 10th.

February Newsletter 2009

Hello!

I have some wonderful news. ALTERED BEGINNINGS is in the final stages of editing and cover art is underway. I should know a release date very soon! Here’s a blurb for you:

The headline in the small town newspaper read Girl Missing, Presumed Dead or Worse.

Leigh Lawson returned to Nags Head, North Carolina after four years with a huge shock. That big and bold headline was about her! Everyone thought she was dead!

The truth was that she was doing well. While gone, she had gotten clean from drugs and worked hard to get her bachelor’s degree in engineering. With her life back on track, she returns home in hope that she will receive a warm welcome. Instead, she gets the townsfolks’ disdain.

Everyone hates her, everyone except Jason Altarez, an ambitious and resilient reporter with his sights locked on Leigh. He chases her with oozing charm and romance, but does he really want her or is he after his next story?

Leigh’s life soon spirals out of control when the police recruit her for an undercover assignment. They want her to go back to the life of her troubled teenage years, back into the drugs, and help them to bring the local drug supplier to conviction. It may be Leigh’s only chance to redeem herself with her family and friends. If she can complete this one assignment, the town will forgive her. The only problem is that she needs to figure out how to stay alive in the process…

Jason is her continuous partner through it all, proving his dedication to her as he struggles to keep her safe. Leigh wants to believe he is a man of his word. She wants to believe that her heart isn’t completely foolish for falling for him, especially when she discovers evidence that Jason may be working for the very drug dealer that Leigh is trying to have arrested. Will he betray her in the end or will he demonstrate the most romantic notion of all – that love at first sight truly exists?

Time honestly seems to fly by! Only a week until March? Yikes! I've got a newsletter to get out...
